The Costa Almeria is situated in the South East of Spain. It is a relatively natural and unspolit province of Spain and is known as the hottest region in Andalucia. This arid climate is reflected in the type of land on this Costa which is not dissimilar to desert terrain. The boundaries of the Costa Almeria are Granada and Murcia and the total area in this province spans over 8700 sq km. The coastline of quiet sandy beaches stretches for 200km and is frequented by those who are adventurous enough to take public transport to them. Due to the undisturbed state of this province a majority of its population reside in its capital, Almeria. The other areas in this province have a large agricultural industry which provides for much of Europe.

Even though road access is limited this does not deter tourists who flock to the region purely to witness its authentic rural Spanish culture. The province contains two large natural parks which include geologically spectacular scenery, classic film sets and long stretches of quiet beaches the Costa Almeria attracts more and more visitors every year.

The Costa Almeria province is gradually adapting to the influx of tourists which is creating changes in facilities and amenities. Two coastal areas in particular that have reacted and adapted to tourism creating ideal locations to visit are Vera and Mojacar. Mojacar, with its Moorish influence, is situated on a hill which slopes down on to its beautiful beaches. The distinctive white washed buildings cascade across the hillside each containing original open air courtyards. Throughout history the passion of this setting has been captured by many artists and scribes.

Vera is well known for a different reason, its culinary expertise in the creation of Spain's most well known food export, Tapas. Yet another town in the Almeria province, Vera embraces tourism. Its 7000 inhabitants are well known as friendly and hospitable and this is a reputation that precedes them.
