Casares - Named after the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar, this beautiful Spanish village is located only 9 miles from the coast. At the top of the town, about 1,400 feet above sea level, you will find a midieval fortress as well as a church - not to mention a breathtaking view. And if you're looking for a bite to eat and some drinks, visit the village plaza.

Gaucin - With modern ammenities yet a traditional Andalucian feel, Gaucin is located on a ridge top only 30 minutes from the coast. It was once a major Roman settlement and has a castle, Castillo de Aguila, that dates back to this era. A few hotels, wonderful restaurants, and impressive views make it the perfect weekend retreat.

Manilva - Located 97 km from Malaga and 13 km from Estepona, Manilva is a small Spanish village whose economy is based primarily on agriculture and fishing. Attractions include well-preserved Roman baths (with health-giving waters you can still bathe in), the 17th century Church of Santa Ana and the 18th century Castillo de la Duqesa.

Benahavis - Just 7km inland, Benahavis is situated near Guadalmina Golf Course. The area has become quite popular - particularly for its large, high-class restauant selection. And although new developments are popping up all the time, the has managed to maintain it's quaint village feel.

Istan - 15 km inland from the Marbella area, Istan is a Spanish village that remains very close to its roots. With a small selection of tapas bars and cafes, very narrow winding streets, and only one hotel, it makes for a wonderful escape.

Ojen - About 10km up into the mountains around Marbella, you will find Ojen. Similar to Istan, this is a small village that has remained unspoiled and very typically Spainsh. A popular attraction for hikers, the Refugio de Juanar is a must see and for you wine lovers, don't forget to visit the wine museum where you can partake in a guided tour and sample local wines of the area.

Monda - Looking for the perfect place for a romantic getaway weekend? Located just past Ojen, the village of Monda has a midieval castle that has been converted into a beautiful, moorish-style hotel.

Guaro - A small town with an economy based on almond production, Guaro is located in the Ojen/Monda area and is an interesting place to visit while out on a weekend drive.

Coín - The Coin area is one with a tremendous amount of history. It is also an area of exceptional natural beauty - one area in particular being the chapel Nuestra Señora de Fuensanta located near the ground of the annual fair.

Tolox - Located at the entrance to the natural park Parque Natural Sierra de las Nieves and home to the famous Fuente Amargosa Health Spa, Tolox is also located off the Malaga to Ronda Highway. With a good selection of accomodation and places to eat, the village remains tourist friendly yet avoids being overly commercial.
